December embarks the start of winter sports here at Yonkers High. With the start of the basketball season on the way, this issue of the Bulldogs Post Sports Report will cover the preparation of both the men and women’s basketball season.
This season’s women’s team is captained by seniors Kaitleen Drobnak and Evangelia Manoulidis. A combination of both skill and leadership, from both the senior captains and

returning players, is going to be needed to help the team throughout it's three month season. When interviewed, Drobnak shared her expectations for the team this season, stating “From the first practice alone I could already tell that this year is going to be incredible. Therefore, my expectations are high. The varsity team is already on its way to building a tight bond. We are all enthusiastic to take on whatever this season has in store for us.” With this, the Bulldogs season kicks off this week and can be followed through their Instagram, @yhs_girlsbasketball.
On the other hand, the men’s team have already started off their season, unfortunately suffering a 69-38 loss against Irvington on the road this past Friday. Despite this recent loss, the

men’s team has big potential to make an impact this season against other Yonkers schools, as well as other schools in Section 1. Further, this year's roster is loaded with seniors such as Sean Leon, Mohammed Suwan, Nathan Joseph, Ethan Borrerro and Jayden George who will be looking to make the most of their final year on the team. This same passion is shared throughout the team, as confirmed by Sean Leon when we interviewed him regarding his expectations this season. In response, he stated “I definitely expect 15+ wins, we’re definitely going to win the City Championship. We got shooting guard Mohammed Suwan, and we got Nate (Nathan Joseph) at our point guard. We got the best senior class in the district, and we’re definitely going to make some noise.” As far as I know, the men’s team's next game will take place December 12th, at home, against the Gorton Wolves. For further updates about the team, they can be found on Instagram under the username @ymhs_boysbasketball.
