Afro Soca

1. How did you decide the dances, or pick out the songs? Was it difficult to decide on those dances/songs?

We picked out songs by seeing what type of songs we wanted to do at first. We either chose Afro or Soca. Then we would find songs that fit in those categories. We first had to listen to the songs we picked then kind of came up with the dance moves or we would look like inspiration. It was a little difficult at first because we wanted to make sure the moves weren't too difficult for people to learn but with the support of each other (the captains) it made it easier to make up the dances and pick the songs!!

2. Teamwork and commitment is a big part of Gala. How were you able to teach the dance to your fellow members (did you practice outside of school? did you record video clips to record, Etc.)? Were there any troubles you had with your members (attendance issues, ticket issues)?

Afro soca Gala consisted of 3 captains! One captain taught the dance, the other fixed certain things that needed to be fixed and our last captain helped the dancers who missed previous practices catch up. During breaks, we didn't practice but we sent videos and songs for our dancers to stay consistent. Our only problem was having 100% attendance the whole time.

3. What part of Gala did you enjoy most?

I enjoyed every part, from mixing the songs, to making the skirts and headbands, to coming up with dances and most importantly, getting closer with my fellow captains

4. If you could, would you join Gala again? If so, which ones would you be interested in?

Yes, I would join the gala again. I think it's a great and fun way to meet people if you are new to the school and to put your ideas together to make the gala come all together I would join Indian gala because I like the culture of dance And I love the outfits all together

5. Do you recommend Gala for upcoming freshmen?

Yes, I 100% think upcoming freshman's should do gala especially if u want to meet people and you want to learn different cultures of dance.
