1) How did you decide the dances, or pick out the songs? Was it difficult to decide on those dances/songs?
We decided the dances by sending each other (me and the other captain Justine) songs and deciding which ones we both liked, it was difficult sometimes to decide on songs but since the Kpop industry is so huge and big and has so many songs to choose from, we ended up settling on songs both me and my other captain were satisfied with!!
2) Teamwork and commitment is a big part of Gala. How were you able to teach the dance to your fellow members (did you practice outside of school? did you record video clips to record, Etc.) ? Were there any troubles you had with your members (attendance issues, ticket issues)?
We taught our members the dances by first learning it in segments on our own. Me and the other captain would meet up and try to learn the dance by ourselves so we could later teach it to our members. Since in Kpop, each song already has their set dance, and we would just learn from the youtube video, and we would modify whatever we didn’t like/wanted to change. Yes we had outside practices at my house on the weekends as the practices in school were not enough. We would record videos of each practice and look back on our progress/who needs to fix what, what can we do better. Yes, we did have issues with attendance as everyone does have busy lives with other extracurriculars and it would overlap with gala practices. We did have some members drop out of our gala which did make it harder for us, but we managed and worked hard to pull off a great performance and I couldn't be prouder of my gala and their work towards it.
3) What part of Gala did you enjoy most?
The part of the gala I enjoyed the most was spending time and getting closer with the gala members. Having outside practices and spending a lot of time with them dancing really grew us together as people and I’m so grateful to have gotten to know every single one of my members, I’m forever grateful for them. I wouldn’t have gotten to put on this performance without them and they all did so so good on gala day, i’m so proud of them 🤍
4) If you could, would you join Gala again? If so, which ones would you be interested in?
If I could, I would definitely join gala again, I would of course do my gala Korean gala, I would also be interested in Indian gala as I am Indian 🇮🇳
5) Do you recommend Gala to incoming freshmen?
Of course I recommend Gala for freshmen!! It is such a good way to meet new people and create long lasting bonds with whatever gala they choose to be in.

1) My fellow captain, Zaina, and I began discussing songs we wanted to perform during the summer. We started by deciding on the overall feel we wanted to create. Since there are two captains, we discussed possible songs and agreed on a few. There were many songs on the list, but depending on the number of members, time, popular songs, etc. things changed. Essentially, it's trial and error. While it was definitely stressful at times and disagreements occurred, it was generally a very exciting process.
2) Teamwork and commitment is a big part of Gala. How were you able to teach the dance to your fellow members (did you practice outside of school? did you record video clips to record, Etc.) ? Were there any troubles you had with your members (attendance issues, ticket issues)?
The approach we used to teach the dances varied depending on the songs and the needs of our members. Typically, we captains would teach the members the dances in little segments, we learned previously. Learning could’ve been as easy as copying the dance until we understood it. In other cases, it may Involve breakdown of moves and the use of counts. Oftentimes outside practice was used to improve upon our timing, precision, and positions. When we were unable to meet in person, we would send videos so our members could practice at home. Unfortunately, we ran into attendance issues as other extracurriculars were scheduled on the same days. Furthermore, there was also a great deal of concern due to the inability of members to purchase tickets for their family before they sold out. However, despite the stress that was caused by these problems, I’m very proud of my girls for working through them and putting on a great performance!
3) The best part of the gala in my experience has been the people and the community that you built there.
4) I would absolutely recommend the gala, it’s very stressful but it is so fun and rewarding. I mean it when I say I love those girls!!
5) I love my gala. I would redo my entire gala experience starting from my first year. Outside of my own gala I’ve always loved Mexican gala.
