1. How did you decide the dances, or pick out the songs? Was it difficult to decide on those dances/songs?
Leah + Sarah exchanged song recommendations & always made sure that BOTH captains agreed on a song before finalizing on it. We’d also make sure to consider the opinions of our male captains & get their stamp of approval for the boy dances :)
2. Teamwork and commitment is a big part of Gala. How were you able to teach the dance to your fellow members (did you practice outside of school? did you record video clips to record, Etc.) ? Were there any troubles you had with your members (attendance issues, ticket issues)?
Besides the school practices, we‘d have weekend practices at our homes. We even rented out a dance studio a few times. But the best part would be when we’d to share a meal together after each practice & have the chance to bond together 🫶
3. What part of Gala did you enjoy most?
My favorite part of the gala each year is the funny moments we’d share. We loved spending time with the entire team, & it showed me how we’ve all grown into one huge brown family 🫠
4. If you could, would you join Gala again? If so, which ones would you be interested in?
I would definitely join the Gala again if I have time for it. If we weren’t in an Indian gala, one gala we’d see ourselves doing is Afro Soca. The rhythm + high energy is very similar to our culture. Another gala we enjoyed watching is the Mexican gala.
5. Do you recommend Gala for new incoming freshmen?
We definitely recommend gala for incoming freshmen. Joining such a huge dance team early in your high school career can be scary, but it’s one of the best decisions we’ve made. it gives you some life long friends and incredible experiences you’ll never forget❤️
